Johnny was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday School. “Well, mum, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. “When he got to the Red Sea he had his engineers build a pontoon “Now, Johnny, is that really what your teacher taught you?” his “Well, no, mom, but if I told it the way the teacher did, you’d never believe it.” You are warmly invited to a revival, October 15-17. Leading us will be Craig Shepperd, of Norman. Craig Shepperd was born and raised in Mustang, OK. He serves as pastor of Discipleship and Youg Adults here at Norman Community Church of the Nazarene, as well as the Assistant Director of the University of Oklahoma Nazarene Student Center and adjunct professor at The University of Oklahoma. He has a BA in Christian Education from Southern Nazarene University, as well as a Masters of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Craig has served four years in Southeastern Europe as a missionary. He has also served at Lenexa Central Church of the Nazarene. He is married to Anita. She serves special needs children at Monroe Elementary. They have been married for 10 years.
A blonde got into heaven, and when she arrived at the Golden Gates, she was asked one question: “What is God’s name?” She replied, “Andy.” “Andy? Why Andy?”, she was asked. She replied, “Oh, you know, ‘Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me, Andy tells me I am his own.’ “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14) If you do not ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit, how will you ever discern what is from God and what is not. That which is from God will prevail, that which is from man, will wither and die. September 10, 2010
August 26, 2010 The Franklin middle school group has a new name!!! The Young Believers!! We are about to begin a new bible study titled Love Out Loud, by Doug Fields. This gives a new meaning to LOL. Ok, Ok…if you are asking what is the old meaning…Laugh Out Loud is the popular term, but now it can be LOVE OUT LOUD. We will explore the true meaning of love and caring. The bible reads in John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Wow!! That is powerfull!! Come check it out. For more information contact Brad Rogers 405-613-8663 test Rhodes” ramblings. In the May United Methodist Reporter, Dr. Donald Haynes makes the statement that, “The Church is the only source of input in our society where God is really the subject, but the church has lost much of it’s influence and impact.” I couldn’t agree more. So many of our “main line” churches are on the decline. Our “traditional churches” have tried many ways to stop the steady decline in membership. Instead of preaching, teaching and pushing bible study they have tried other means to draw and “please” the people. Things like contemporary worship, emerging worship, high dollar marketing programs and in some cases, Starbucks and Krispy Kremes in the foyer. They end up with weak Christians with little biblical knowledge. One of the largest churches in Chicago with a membership in the thousands admitted this in a letter. The result is large congregations of weak Christians who tend to buckle in the “storms” of life and cannot live the rich full lives that God wants for them. Too many Christians are biblically illiterate. They don’t study their bible. They aren’t capable of making disciples as Jesus commanded. They are content to be spectators at church if or when they go. They don’t have a compass for their life. As a result neither do their children. Eventually they see no great purpose in traditional church and drift away into self help books and programs, feel good TV ministries, and mega-churches where they can stay anonymous and out of sight, hear a “feel good” sermon and go home. What a sad thing they do to themselves and their children. They will be easy targets for the devil and his crew. Franklin is a traditional church. We shall continue to preach, teach and study the bible so that our lives will be enriched and we can find our place in God’s plan. The bible cannot enrich our lives and give us direction if we don’t know where to find God’s will and God’s promises in it. Gerry |
